First Spinnerbait Fish

Postby Ezcue » 10/13/04 3:58pm

Bob and I took vacation to get in a couple fishing days before the end of the year. We started early this morning, at the golf course, and worked our way to what has come to be known as "the lunker pond". We threw buzzbaits for a little while, Bob hooked a decent fish that got off right at the bank. I decided to try a spinnerbait, on a whim. I threw to the middle of the pond and as the lure was falling, I felt a very light tap. I thought to myself, "self..that wasn't deep enough to be the bottom or structure". So, I set the hook. My Helium HE66MH doubled and the line shot to the right like it was hooked to a truck. I started crankin the reel and trying to keep the fish out of the structure it was trying to hang me up in. I got her turned and was horsing her pretty hard to get her to the bank and landed. As I got her clear of the structure, she tail walked and my mouth went completely dry, biggest fish I have ever seen. I wanted to yell to Bob to help me land her but at that moment I could not have gotten a word out of my mouth for a million bucks. No need to call for help, my fishing partner saw the tail walk and headed for the scale and the ( - - blocked - - ) and then to help me get her in. She weighed in at 8lbs 8oz and is the largest fish I have ever had the fortune to catch. Ironic side note, I have never caught a cold on a spinner bait and was throwing just because a I had a "feeling". Sure glad I listened up! In a previous post on TT about spinnerbaits I had mentioned to Sdesign my lack of confidence in SBs and he mailed me one to try. LOL, that very bait is the one hanging out of that fishes mouth. :o

Big thanks to you Dennis, and ( - - blocked - - )...I am now a sold on the blades. 8)

Thanks for looking.

ezcue,

Man! You are on a roll! Now that's a lunker!! :D

How do you do it? Do you rub Bob's belly for good luck everytime you head to the pond with him? Well, whatever works! Congrats!

ROFLOL, that is too funny, Chavez. Hey man, whatever it takes. Bob is a pretty large fella(6'5" 245lbs) though, he may not take to kindly to a little "Budda rub" for luck.

Thanks bud. 8)

Dan, thanks that means a lot coming from you. I attribute most of my success to guys like you and Dennis and everyone else on the forums. I look at my rigs and the line, hooks, and several of the lures have all been because of your advice...Thanks again! Aint the Internet grand! 8)
