helya7.6hc great for big jigs?

Postby crazychris » 11/21/07 12:37pm

i have a 7' mh lta and it's great for most of my fishing situations but i wanted a stiffer rod for big spinnerbaits and jigs. i recently bought a He7.6HC .how does it perform with jigs and big spinnerbaits?

they are great feeling rods, however, they don't handle big fish well. i love the feel, but i have broken 3. 1 putting a fish in the net at the boat, and the other 2 broke when i winched a couple of 3 pounders in. maybe not the smartest thing to do, but none of my other rods have broke doing this. i switched to the he76thc. lost a fraction of sensitivity, but i haven't broken one yet. both rods fish great, just the telescopic one holds up better.

hi guys,

76HC one piece long stick is my favourite rods for these reason:

1. i love the lightness of my rod+reel combo while 76 tele are always heavyweight
2, i love the versatility of this rod for baits up to 3/4 oz but not for vertical presentations while i think the max jig is 1/2 oz
3 easy hooksets with no fatigue
4, incredible tip action

crazychris, as you said, you did something i would never do with such a soft tip action long rod, they break very easily due to its action/lenght!!!

if you want to have a soft tip which allows you some action but you want PLENTY of back bone, the swithc to the 7XHC LTA.....another of my favourites

MR Kistker how does the rod perform with jigs(1/2-1 oz) ?i fish near dams and i need the heavy jigs(i don't like them that much) i also use carolina rigs. i won't have the chance to go fishing until december but i already bought my rod. is the TIP STIFF anough for what i want to use or not? i presume it has a strong backbone...i'm interested in the TIP of the rod and how would it perform with jigs in powerful current or when fighting a fish...i wanted a stiff rod(ocassionly i go walleye fishing ).....it still a heavy rod,is it not?
