Fishing Rods

I need a rod for skipping & pitching 1/4 to 1/2 jigs) mostly around docks & moderate cover. This will be my first Kistler. I like that the guides supposedly won't get knocked out. I would like to try a graphite plus or Magnesium rod, any suggestions?

Personally if I were to choose from a graphite plus or magnesium, I would choose the magnesium since it is quite a bit lighter than the graphite plus (not that the g. plus is heavy) and my choice of actions for the pitchin'/skippin' would be the MgSWMH70. I like this rod because it has a little softer tip but has all the backbone I need to get 'em away from the dock.

Ryan from Kistler recommended the 7' jig n toad rod or the 6' 10" chatterbait/swimming jig rod. They were both heavy action rods. The senko rod you mentioned sounds like it is very versatile, is it stout enough for a 1/2 oz jig?

Sounds like some good advice so far. I think you first must think about which jigs you use most and how much cover you are in. I fish a alot of finesse jigs 1/8 to 5/16 oz in moderate cover and would recommend either the 7'mh magnesium senko special or the 6'10" mh graphite senko special. Both have a nice tip to help pitching/casting. If you tend to use more 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jigs with moderate plus cover, then I would go with either the 7"h Mag jig and toad or the 6'10" mh graphite jig and pig rod. Both offer tremendous power which can help turn a bass in cover.

Fishin' rods are like tools and unfortunately the day of the adjustable wrench has gone by the wayside. Yes the rod is heavy enough for a 1/2 ounce jig for open water casting/dock pitchin' applications, but if you are looking to fish in the heavy stuff, you will want a heavier stick and the jig and toad will probably be a better choice.

Most of my jig fishing is around docks & moderate cover. I use some 5/16-7/16 finesse jigs as well as 3/8 & 1/2 oz jigs. I'm leaning toward the 6'10" Senko Special. I'm 5'7" so I like the shorter rod & handle.
