Helium fly rods and kayak fishing rods

Postby chavez » 5/1/04 12:10pm

Has anyone asked whether the Helium blanks could ever be expanded for use in fly rods?

Helium Fly Rods

Postby kistlero » 5/5/04 5:38pm

Chavez,

Guess what my friend? We are working on a line up of Kayak fishing rods and there are a few Helium Fly Rods included. Look for them later this year. We will let you know when they come out.

Oh yeah, I get to test them out. Someone has to work in the field testing office.

Ha Ha!

Thanks for the nice comments on the forum.

The suspense is going to kill me Trey! I can see I'm going to have to start a Christmas list early this year!

Excellent news! You know you don't have to field test 'em alone. You'll have a hundred eager Texas coast kayakers and wade fisherman chomping at the bit!

You need a field tester?

Postby Koyak » 5/28/04 9:10am

Trey,

New to the forum but I bought an LTA after reading the Tackletour Review. i now own 3 LTA's and a Mark Tyler series. I am a dedicated smallmouth bass angler and I find that the 6'9" MH LTA is a perfect Baitcaster for smallmouths.

I fish almost exclusively from a kayak so if you need someone to test your new kayak series, I am your man! Seriously...I think it's awesome you are creating a product line targeted to a growing group of fishermen.

Field testing Kayak rods

Postby kistlero » 5/28/04 10:23am

Guys, I will put out a post later this year and invite anyone out to the coast to help field test our new Kayak Series line up of rods. Where do ya'll think would be a great spot to do some testing and catching around October? Let me hear you opinion.

Thanks,
Trey

Trey,

You know where you can ask...texaskayakfisherman.com. Port Aransas and Corpus Christi area are my recommendations, btw.

Also, see a recent thread started by my friend birdsnest on the TKF forum about the conversion of several kayak anglers to Kistler rods. Could world domination be next? :D :D

My vote is for the gulf coast of fla. I know I will lose this, but Trey it was worth a try.

If you make it to Fla. this year for a boat show or something, I will set up a trip with you & Clay. I missed the trip last year.

Kayak Rod field test site

Postby kistlero » 6/1/04 11:47am

Guys, I would love to make a trip to Florida and fish for those mean snook with our new Kayaking rods, but I think we would have better luck with the Big Reds here along the coast in October. What do you think?

We want to really test these rods out and to do so means hooking up with several drag striping Redfish. :D

I look forward to meeting all of you later this year on the water.

Hey Trey,

Is the kayak line just for the in-shore kayak fishermen? how about something for Kayak river fishermen chasing after bass? we are a neglected group. There are a bunch of us out there. just kidding, Trey.

I was checking out the California and Graphite plus spinning rods. The Dock Skipping special looks like it maybe an awesome kayak soft plastics rod. .

I'd love to check out your entire line of rods. You have any plans to sell your rods in Northern VA / Washington, DC area?

Chavez,

Sorry about that. We have delayed the introduction of the Kayak Series rods into further notice. We are still fine tuning the entire series and want to have all of our ducks in a row.

I can't tell you the specifics about the rods cause I do not want another rod company taking our ideas. We will have something special...I can promise you that my friend.

If anyone wants to come and try my new 2 wt. Helium fly rod. Meet me at our lake X this fall. Man is it light weight.

Hmmm, I missed that last part. I am again re-visting fly fishing for bass and specks and reds and re-thinking about upgrading my TFO 5wt and 8wt to the TFO TiCR for Christmas but I'ld sell both and wait a bit if a Helium 7wt or 8wt is coming soon. Can you mention specifications such as do they have fighting butts with the comfortable wide foam tips, graphite or aluminum reel seats, and do they have the famous blue zirconium guide inserts and titanium guides? Are they 2, 3 or 4 piece? Will they be medium fast or fast action rods? Any snippets of info would be helpful plus maybe a price range for them if that isn't already asking too much.

Chavez,

Glad you asked. We do have a few sample Helium fly rods made up and a few extra blanks ready to be customized. We can certainly take one of these and create a one of a kind Helium fly rod for you if you want. We have all of the different component parts you have listed.

The blanks are 2 pc. in a 5 wt. 6 wt. 7 wt. and 8 wt. I believe that the blanks of upper flex, medium fast actions.

You let me know and we can have one built in a few weeks. The cost will be around $350.00 to $500.00 depending on what hardware you want to go with.

Trey,

Thanks for the quick reply. What about a 4 piece? My first fly rod was a St Croix 2 piece but it was difficult to stow in the kayak hull and when traveling and so I got rid of it and got the 4 piece TFO fly rods instead. There's no real difference (that I could tell) in the action between a 2 and 4 piece so the benefits of compact carry made me change.

Did y'all compare between a 2 and 4 piece and find the 2 piece somewhat better?
