Red Hooks

Postby creationfish » 10/22/07 7:43pm

Tony L brought up a question about red hooks on another forum that we both post on. The question was if you feel that red hooks matter? Since this is a national forum I would like to know what you guys think.

I believe that the color red period causes fish to strike before any other color. So yes, I like the red hooks.

red hooks

I believe the color red can be used in two ways. One as a tigger and the other as a ( - - blocked - - ). If used right the red color can increase your strikes. But I also feel it could cause bass not to strike at all. Time and a place for everything. I've experimented with red line and the only reason i did that is cause of reading about the color red becoming invisible in low light.. I use red line as leaders on my Carolina Rigs in deep water (below 10ft) and on my deep diving crankbait rods.

I belive that confidence is one of the most impotant aspects in bass fishing . If red hooks give you confidence , then why would you not use them . Go with what ever works for you , just remember you have to belive in it .

I have to agree with Ryan, fishing is 1/3 practice, 1/3 preparation and 1/3 confidence. I use a red treble on the front of my crankbaits and I feel that most of the time I have more success because of it, but after the fish have knocked the red finish off the hook exposing the gold I also have good success on it !?! Good fishing, Andy

its not the color red that makes the line disappear it is light penetration on the line

last march i was fising several different colors of jerk baits.i had two of the same color baits, and did not get any hits.so i had heard of this red hook theory.and figured why not give it a try.i fished the same water and got bit on the center red hook the bass did not hit the front or rear hooks. so i think red hooks do work

Red Hooks on Swimbaits are awesome. However, I think the paint takes away from the sharpness of the hook.
