Fishing Rods

We all know how sensitve kistlers are and how light they are.

But since I've only fished with them once. Are the kistlers really reliable? I plan to purchase the Magnesium Jig N' Toad rod for flipping/pitching my jigs, worms, and craws around laydowns, docks, etc.

If at any chance I hooked a good one say 4lb+ fish, knowing me I'll probably boat flip it more then I will to used a net. I boat flip 90% of my jigs and texas rig fish. Will kistler snap if I boat flip these size fish?

I know kistler are very light, but I wonder since it light it had to be built with less material I wonder about brittleness of the rod.

I'll probably end up buying magneisum Jig N toad rod and rig it up with either shimano citica or Revo S.

I've been fishing Kistler rods for about 4 years now and have never found them to be too brittle to perform any function that they ar built to perform. With that said, flipping a 4lb fish into the boat is a lot to ask of any rod. With that said, I've done it but don't recommend. If you get the rod angle a little too high they will snap. 2 1/2 to 3lbs is about as big as I'll try to flip into the boat, and Trey will probably be getting on me for that! Great rods and will do all they are supposed to do, but abuse will break any of them!

Thanks, Ya i know flippign fish that big can be a wrecking havoc on any rod. I need to learn my patience, I just get excited and boat flip them, expecially if i'm alone. BUt when someone with me and it not a tournament, I'll yell for net.

I'm pretty much dead on about buying a shiman citica and kistler mag ts jig rod by end of summer before school start back.

Although I do not build these rods, I wouldn't exactly say that the lightness translates into less material as you suggested, it is more likley a lighter material that eliminates the weight and bulk of lesser technologically advanced materials.

I have a Mg Jig and Toad Special and I absolutely love the rod..It's perfect for jigs..I caught fish on a 3/4 football down at Kerr Reservoir in early May fishing deep and just recently caught flip fish on the Potomac in wood and grass..
The rod excells in all applications with a jig..I paired the rod with a Daiwa Zillion 7:1 and 16# Gamma Edge Flouro.
The weight,balance and feel are just awesome...I hope this helps..

I wouldn't recommend boat flipping a 4 pounder with any rod!! With that said I would recommend either lipping the fish instead of boat flipping it if you don't want to use a net.

I love the Magnesium heavy cover fish snatcher!! It is a lot more compact for docks as it is a 6'8" rod that is a lot easier to skip and pitch under the docks. It is by far the best as it has a lot of backbone and I have what you call boat flipped 5 pound smallmouth this past spring at Lake Chataqua in New york.
