Dave- The rod may be a little to stiff for the lighter shakey heads I.E 1/16,1/8 etc. I feel that you get better action for shakey heads with a spinning rod I have the finesse work special and it's a perfect rod for a shakey head. You have enough hook setting power to get a good hook set and enough action to work the lure properly. Hope this helps.

Honesly it depends on a few factors.

First, what model worm and jig rod do you have? If it is a medium heavy action then I think you will be fine. I started throwing my shakey heads on a medium heavy rod and absolutly love it. The only problem with the rod is that it was not really designed for such a lite lure.

Second, can you throw 8lb line on a baitcasting reel? Thats going to be tough. Personally, I would look at the medium action spinning rod in the graphite plus line or, if you can do it, bump up to the magnesium 6'10" Meduim heavy rod. In my opinion, 95% of the time, that is the perfect shakey head rod. The length is good for picking up a lot of line on a hookset, and the medium heavy action gives you plenty of backbone when setting the hook on a long cast or in 30 plus feet of water.
