8/22/04--New, 'lucky' Hat and two Bass over 5lbs!

Postby Lightninrod » 8/22/04 4:19pm

Here is the http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100886&anum=3723 first one, 5lbs, 8ozs. And of course, caught on my favorite rig, my 7' Helium MC and an Antares AR reel. The Fat Free Shad helped  too. Here she is again:Image http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100887&anum=3723 Link if Image doesn't show.

Same rig and bait but a bigger http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100890&anum=3723 Bass---5lbs, 13ozs. It doesn't show in the pic but she's hooked on the outside of her face and with only two points of the rear treble  . Here is her http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100893&anum=3723 Mouth :D .

What great fun to fight two 5+ lb Bass and land them with the best rod in the business! I caught two more smaller ones on the same rig today.

Nice set of "Helium Hawgs", Dan. Which Fat Free are you using, I have found 4 or 5 different models?

Ez: It's their 3" model in "Citrus Shad" color: http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jhtml?id=0018597&navAction=jump&navCount=1&indexId=&parentId=&parentType=&rid=&link=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fcatalog%2Fpod-link.jhtml.1_A&_DAV=search I just ordered two more.

Btw, both of the bigger ones were only hooked with two points of the rear treble hook; one behind the upper lip and the other on the outside of its 'face' . I truly believe it was my ROD that allowed me to land those two and not end up losing them by ripping the hooks out.

Thanks for the heads up. The Helium is an awesome piece of fish catching graphite, lol. It took me about 3 weeks to stop setting the hook on "structure", the thing is so sensitive that the first few times I fished it everything felt like a strike, LOL... :P

That's some good fishing!! EZCue, we have a saying... Hooksets are free. If I'm not sure I set the hook.. But I hear what you're saying. My first time out with my Helium I caught a real nice brushpile!

Ezcue,

Talk about sensitive, I was fishing with my He69APC and dragging a weightless t-rigged ( - - blocked - - ) Bamboo ( - - blocked - - ) on the edge of a channel while I was talking to a fishing partner. I felt a slight bit of resistance and set the hook. At first, I thought I had caught a small catfish because it didn't surface. Then as I reeled in, I figured I had hooked a branch because it felt like I was pulling a lot of something through the water. My partner had a laugh as I brought it out of the water. I had hooked a redear turtle through the webbing of the rear foot! The dang turtle stepped on my worm and I felt it! That was the first turtle I've caught (ever) on my Helium.

So, turtles beware! If you sneeze or step on my lure, I'll set the hook in short order! :P

A guy on another forum(I invited him over here.) stated that he just caught a 9+lb Bass(had a pic) from the shore, no less. He gave the credit to his new Helium as he was fishing with a cr/bait and he said the difference in the cadence of the bait 'told' him a Bass had sucked it in. He felt nothing else until he immediately set the hook. Incredible but we know what he meant and felt.

Those two 5+ Bass hit very liightly too but my Helium 'talked' to me 8) .
