My Drop Shot Spinning Rod was Delivered Yesterday

Postby Brad » 1/18/07 10:51am

Rigged it up with a Quantum Energy spinning reel that I just purchased. Spooled it with 8 lb fluoro and a 1/8 oz drop shot weight with a finesse worm. Tried the setup in the pool and I think I'm going to really like this rod. Hardly have to move the rod tip to impart action to the worm.
Anybody else own one of these rods? How about the reel? I would like to hear your thoughts on either one of them. Hopefully, I can make it to the lake this weekend and put it to the test, if the weather cooperates.

This rod will grow on you quick. one of my favorites for sure. Sometimes even the smallest fish seem big with this rod, which just adds to the enjoyment. Try dropshotting a Clearwater Custom Tackle 4" tape worm, the fish love them.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I get the tapeworm? (besides from a bad hamburger) :)

Do you just nose - hook this worm or texpose it?

Dropshot rod

Postby sandman » 1/19/07 3:59pm

Hey everyone I am new to this forum, just wanted to say I got the same reel for Christmas and was going to pickup the same rod to go on it. Please post and let me know how it works out I will probably get mine next week, also do you think you could throw a shakyhead or weightless worm on that rod or do you think I would need the finesse and tube special? Thanks ahead Jason.

You can get the tapeworm from www.clearwatercustomtackle.com he also carries other dropshot baits that work very well, I nose hook all the baits unless I'm throwing their big sculpin, then i hook it like a texas rigged worm. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Hooksetter.
Sandman, I'm going to use my rod to throw shakey heads too. I've just been messing around in the pool with it, but when I get out on the water I'll give you some feedback. I sure like the feel and balance of this combo, though. Its my first Energy reel. Figured I'd give one a try.
