Rod of the Month - Kistler Big Swim Bait Special (KBSBS80)
Each month we will feature a rod from one of our lines of rods. Each line of Kistler Rods has rods that will help you become a better and more successful angler. Kistler has rods for your favorite fishing technique. We are constantly working on new rods that will possibly be added to the Kistler line of rods.
This month’s Rod of the Month is the Kistler Big Swim Bait Special (KBSBS80). This rod has been over a year in development. The Kistler Pro Staff helped design this rod for throwing large swimbaits. This technique, started in California, has made its move east. Most recently, pro staff member Steve Kennedy, used a swimbait to help him finish second in the Bassmaster Elite Memorial tournament in upstate New York.
Derrick Patch, of California, is a pro staff member who has seen the Kistler Swim Bait Special evolve since its inception. He uses this rod to hunt lunker bass in the deep reservoirs of California. Patch said that he enjoys the 8 foot length of the rod to help him throw 5 to 6 ounce swimbaits forty or more yards. “The rod has a fast tip which allows me to load the rod very quickly” says Patch. He also likes the long 14 inch handle when throwing the large swimbaits.
Willie Waller is another California angler who has had success using the Kistler Big Swim Bait Special. Waller says that the rod is very “light for its length”. He says that the rod weight and action is perfect for throwing large baits. Also, Walker states that the rod has a soft tip with plenty of backbone to handle the large California largemouths. Willie likes to use 20 pound line when using the rod.
The Kistler Big Swim Bait Special has a moderate parabolic action and is rated for 1 to 5 ounce lures. The rod can handle line weights of 15 to 30 pounds. Eleven guides, plus the tip help make every cast a smooth one. The double-footed guides are black plated and made of stainless steel . The guides also have braid proof rings. The rod has a 14 inch handle for those long casts. This is a must rod for those who throw swimbaits.
Currently, we are working on several rods to add to our Magnesium Technique Specific line of rods. Be sure to look for these rods in the near future.
